Chemiluminescence systems have emerged as one of the most comprehensive Western blot detection methods. They avoid the dangers associated with radioactive substances and toxic chromogenic substrates. The detection speed and sensitivity of these methods are unmatched by traditional methods, and the results are produced on film, so the data can be permanently recorded and stored. Blots detected with chemiluminescence can be eluted so that they can be subsequently re-detected with other antibodies.
